After descending a flight of stairs through nature, we find an enchanting levada with a unique water channel, embedded with tuff stones, which winds along the slope of the Ribeira da Janela Valley, immersing us in the dense laurel forest.

        What to bring

          The weather on the island changes so fast, so please bring a rain or wind jacket with you, even in the summer.

          Also, this hike is pretty high on the mountains, so it could be a bit cold. Bring something warm with you, even if you decide to leave it on the car afterward. It is better to be safe than sorry.

          The hike might be a bit more challenging than you expect, so bring some snacks and water with you. Maybe even something sweet.

          On this hike, there is a steep descent. If you have knee problems, remember to come prepared with walking sticks or even knee pads.
